  • Syed Saddiq completed a 200km protest run, raising RM160,000 for his constituency.
  • The run aimed to protest the lack of government allocations for opposition MPs.
  • Public support was significant, with 2,000 Malaysians contributing to the fundraising effort.

Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman has successfully completed a 200km protest run, raising RM160,000 for his constituency. The initiative, known as "Langkah Muar," was not just a test of physical stamina but also a powerful statement against the lack of government allocations for opposition MPs.

The run began in Muar, Johor, and ended at the Parliament in Kuala Lumpur. Over the course of four days, Syed Saddiq covered the distance, drawing attention to the funding disparities faced by opposition MPs. "For more than a year, the opposition constituencies have not received allocations," Syed Saddiq stated, highlighting the financial challenges that his community service centers face due to the lack of government support.

Syed Saddiq's protest run was a response to the government's failure to allocate funds to opposition MPs, who receive no financial support compared to the RM20 million allocated to government MPs each term. Despite multiple attempts to negotiate, including meetings with Deputy Prime Minister Fadillah Yusof, no progress was made. "The government asks us to negotiate. I have met the Deputy Prime Minister twice and sent three letters, but there has been no progress," Syed Saddiq lamented.

The run garnered significant public support, with 2,000 Malaysians contributing to the fundraising effort. Syed Saddiq's journey was marked by moments of physical strain, but the encouragement from supporters who lined the streets kept his spirits high. "Instead of complaining, it is better for me to take action," he said, embodying a proactive approach to addressing political issues.

Syed Saddiq is no stranger to innovative fundraising methods. In the past, he has participated in the Bald Challenge Fund-raiser, conducted public speaking classes, and even cooked and sold lasagna to raise funds. This time, he chose to use his legs as a form of protest and fundraising, demonstrating his unwavering dedication to his constituency.

The funds raised through "Langkah Muar" will be used to support community service centers in Muar, ensuring that essential services continue despite the lack of government allocations. Syed Saddiq's protest run has not only highlighted the funding disparities but also inspired many with his determination and resilience.

As the youngest minister in Malaysia's history, Syed Saddiq continues to make headlines with his bold initiatives and unwavering commitment to his constituents. His recent protest run is a testament to his dedication to fighting for fair treatment and resources for all Malaysians, regardless of their political affiliation.
