  • Huawei is expanding its EV footprint through partnerships with automakers like SAIC and JAC, launching new brands Shangjie and Maextro, targeting mass-market and ultra-luxury segments respectively.
  • The company focuses on providing smart car technologies—such as HarmonyOS and Qiankun ADAS—instead of manufacturing cars, including collaborations with international brands like Audi.
  • Huawei is growing its EV infrastructure in China and Malaysia, aiming to open 1,000 EV stores by 2025 and boost charging networks across Southeast Asia.

[WORLD] Huawei has intensified its efforts in the EV industry through strategic collaborations with established automakers. Notably, the company has partnered with SAIC Motor to co-develop a new EV brand named Shangjie. The first model under this brand is anticipated to debut in autumn 2025, marking a significant milestone in Huawei's automotive ambitions .

Additionally, Huawei has joined forces with JAC Group to introduce Maextro, an ultra-luxury EV brand. The inaugural model, the S800, is expected to launch at the 2025 Shenzhen Auto Show in May. This collaboration underscores Huawei's commitment to producing high-end electric vehicles equipped with advanced technologies .

Technological Advancements and Market Expansion

Huawei's approach to the EV market is centered around providing cutting-edge technology solutions rather than manufacturing vehicles. The company's HarmonyOS operating system and advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) are integral components of its strategy. Huawei's Qiankun ADAS is already featured in models from various Chinese automakers and is set to be included in the China-made Audi Q6L e-tron, marking the company's first collaboration with a foreign automaker .

In addition to technological advancements, Huawei is expanding its retail footprint in China. The company plans to establish around 1,000 EV-focused stores by the end of 2025, offering sales, delivery, and maintenance services under the Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance (HIMA) brand .

Expansion into Malaysia's EV Ecosystem

Huawei is also making significant strides in Malaysia's EV sector. In May 2024, the company partnered with Sunway Group and ChargeSini to enhance the nation's EV charging infrastructure. This collaboration aims to increase the availability of charging stations across Sunway-owned properties and developments, supporting Malaysia's goal of establishing 10,000 EV charging stations by 2025 .

Furthermore, Huawei Malaysia is actively contributing to the digital transformation of the automotive value chain in Malaysia. The company is providing essential digital solutions to support the growth of the EV ecosystem, aligning with the nation's objectives outlined in the Low Carbon Mobility Blueprint and the National Energy Transition Roadmap .
